About iEARN:

 

 iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) is the world’s largest  non-profit global network that enables teachers and youth to use the Internet and other technologies to collaborate on projects that enhances learning and make a difference in the world.  IEARN has been linking schools internationally since 1988 under the leadership of Copen Family Foundation. IEARN started with the link of 12 schools in Moscow and 12 in New York in a pioneering demonstration that education can be enhanced and the quality of life on the planet improved if young people are given the opportunity to use telecommunication technologies to collaborate on projects.

IEARN is active worldwide in more than 25,000 schools and youth organizations in over 120 countries. Over 1,000,000 students each day are engaged in collaborative project work.

Objectives

  • Share models for how educational telecommunications can be used to affect positive social, political and economic change, and address unmet human and environmental needs.
  • Share successful classroom project examples that make a meaningful difference, and ideas/models of curriculum/classroom learning enhancement.
  • Address issues of global technological inequalities and costs to local schools.
  • Demonstrate and provide hands-on experience in leading technology.
  • Encourage cross-cultural understanding through the use of different languages in project work, making place for voices which are not usually heard, and exploring other ways of breaking down barriers.
  • Enlarge the iEARN community to expand its global community of educators and youth leaders using telecommunications.
  • Share innovative educational resources from different centres, countries and organizations.
  • Identify steps toward enhancing and sustaining on-line project participation.
  • Create environment for new collaborative project ideas to be developed, and enable participants to return home with specific action steps to create and/or expand educational telecommunications project work.
  • Build on the highly successful inaugural teachers and students’ previous meetings and conferences in different countries.
  • Open to educators from outside the iEARN Network.
  • Discuss and demonstrate of the latest developments in educational practice utilizing telecommunications and associated technology will be the key focus of the workshop sessions.

During the 7th day conference, there will be presentations as follow: -

1) Papers (45 minutes): It is an oral summary with occasional reference to notes or text, describing and discussing what the presenter is doing or has done and includes handouts and visual aids.

2) Demonstration (45 minutes): It is a technique or demonstration of the applications of technology and other educational tools to classroom instruction used for showing, rather than telling, including handouts and visual aids.

3) Workshop (90 minutes - two slots): It is an activity emphasizing participants' involvement, carefully structured by the facilitator, and containing minimal lecturing. Workshop audience actively needs to be for at least 50% of the duration of the workshop through small assignments, sub-group work related to the subject of the workshop.

4) In Progress Meetings (45 minutes): It includes Country meetings, iEARN regional meetings (Europe, Asia, Latina, and Arabia etc.), assembly and special task forces (Country Coordinators), project meetings (Global Teenager Project, WEC, etc.)

5) Poster session (45 minutes): It is a pictorial representation of a project or activity to be displayed through posters, drawings or other related materials in a "Walking Gallery" with the presenters Standing By available for explanation and discussion.

6) ICT Corners (45 minutes): It is mainly on a PC showing the presenter's applications or practices with ICT. These could include practices with digital filmmaking, web design, graphics etc.

The fees for full attendance of the conference from July 12 to July 18 including accommodation, meals and registration costs will be

Housing (Triple Room, double room and single room):
Includes (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Two coffee breaks).
Conference costs:
Includes (handouts, welcome reception).

Total:
$500.00 per participant for triple room
$600.00 per participant for double room
$700.00 per participant for single room

Group Flight Fare to Bukhara, Uzbekistan for the iEARN 15th Annual International Conference is N180, 000.00 (One Hundred & Eighty Thousand Naira.)  Interested members can now make reservation for the seats from the organization.
